A Week in Cebu: Strengthening the Team Behind Your Advice

Recently, I had the opportunity to travel to Cebu, Philippines, with our Operations Manager, Lachie for the VBP Conference 2026.

Over the course of the week, we attended conference sessions, connected with other financial advice businesses and, most importantly, spent valuable time with members of our advisor support team based in Cebu.

It was a week of learning, sharing ideas, and strengthening relationships with the people who help us support our clients every day.

Meeting Our Cebu-Based Team Face-to-Face

Although we work closely with our Cebu-based team throughout the year, most of that communication naturally happens through emails, online meetings, and phone calls.

There is something different about being able to sit together in the same room.

Spending time face-to-face allowed us to learn more about one another, better understand how everyone works, and have open conversations about what we are doing well and where we can continue improving.

Our time together included a tour of the VBP offices, collaborative discussions and opportunities to connect outside the usual working environment. Sharing meals and experiences gave us the chance to get to know the people behind the roles – not just as colleagues, but as individuals.

It reinforced how important genuine relationships are when building a strong team, regardless of where its members are based.

The Team Behind the Advice

As a client, your adviser will usually be the most visible person throughout your advice journey. However, there is a wider team working behind the scenes to help prepare, implement, and maintain your financial strategy.

Our adviser support team assists with many of the processes that help keep advice moving efficiently and accurately.

While you may not interact with every team member directly, their work contributes to the experience and service you receive from Community Chapman Welsh.

Visiting Cebu gave us a greater appreciation for their contribution and a clearer understanding of how we can continue working together to deliver better outcomes for our clients.

Taking Time to Learn and Reflect

The VBP Conference brought together people from across the financial advice profession to discuss the future of advice, business growth, technology and the changing needs of clients.

Stepping away from our normal routines gave us the space to listen, reflect and consider how we can continue improving at CCW.

There were valuable conversations about using new technology responsibly, creating more efficient processes, and building strong teams. However, the message that stayed with me was that progress should always support better relationships and service.

Technology may help us work more efficiently, but it is the care, communication and understanding of the people involved that makes the real difference.

Returning Home with Stronger Connections

The trip was an opportunity to learn more about the future of our profession, but its greatest value came from the relationships we strengthened along the way.

We returned home with new ideas, a better understanding of our wider team, and an even stronger sense of shared purpose.

For our clients, this means having a connected team working together behind the scenes, with everyone focused on helping you feel supported and confident in the financial decisions you make.

Thank you to VBP, our Cebu-based team, and everyone who made the week such a valuable and memorable experience.
